Today, Dad has had a great deal of progress. He’s had a catheter in again for several days, and today he had that removed for good. Removing this, the last of his encircling tentacles, he was finally free. Combining that with increased strength and well-being, dad went for a walk without a walker this afternoon. His healthcare providers have decided that he’s ready to move to the general hospital floor, but they don’t have a bed for him there yet. He seems to be on track to head home in a few days or so.
We got an iPad yesterday at the apple store, and he’s been enjoying playing some games on it. Despite my best efforts to introduce him to awesome games like angry birds, and world of goo, his favorite seems to be solitaire.
He’s still got some serious wounds that need time to heal, but things are looking good. He’s cheerful, walking on his own, and generally being the smartass we all know and love.
Note the awesome biking hat. We are convinced that this is an important part of recovery.
He’s got to try Paper Toss HD. This may be hard on him … but pay the 99 cents to kill the ads! Can he beat my 39 in “Easy”?
You are looking very sassy in your biker’s hat and freedom from tubes and
attachments…..congrats on the pacing maker. It is an adjustment to make but in the long run gives reassurance. Go Mike Go!
The Little Mister gifted me with an IPad for Christmas and before surgery got myself set up with games, books on tape, all manner of “sitting” projects. Found that the combination of pain and fuzziness from pain Meds and fatigue made it extremely difficult to focus! 2 weeks out and it’s much easier now, although the learning curve is still shallower than hoped for.
It’s so good to see you up and tubeless, Mr Mike! Re exercise, I wonder if downhill walking is allowed? You might walk from the house to the highway and then get a ride home?
Wow! What amazing progress in so short a time! We are delighted to see Mike looking like himself again (with a dramatic new hat), and some credit should go to the input from Benson and Ashleigh — what a smile on Mike’s face as he sits in a real chair at a real table, eating real food! Great photos, Benson. Next stop, Port Angeles. Good thing the docs told you all what exercise is (and is not) allowed….SOME people might be tempted to overdo ….much love to all hands from the Santa Fe Group.
