Getting Ready

Greetings to all,

Just a note pre-surgery.  I’m sitting at the computer on the side of the Elwha valley looking at the snow gently falling and Lake Aldwell enjoying its last winter in its current condition.

I went to The U.W. clinic on Thursday the 6th for pre-op work ups (blood work, chest x-ray, and anaesthesia interviews) and then went in on Friday for the coronary angiogram.  The report from all was good so the surgery schedule is still on track.  I will be going to Seattle on Thursday afternoon with Carole, Benson, and Ashleigh in preparation for surgery on Friday sometime, hopefully early A.M.

I have received lots of support from friends and family and am confident that everything will work out for the best in the end.  I have been told that I could be sailing again in six weeks by the Surgeon but the Nurse Practitioner made that sound a little optimistic.  She said that I won’t be able to mountain bike for 12 weeks.  One of my good friends said that’s just in time to go to Moab!!!!  Time will tell but I will be back on the bike this summer.

Jacque and I just finished sledding Cascade around the front yard in the dark. When it snows here on the Strait, the world stops, parents play hooky, and kids apparently get to stay up late.

Just now, Cascade is reading books in his beautiful handmade bed, thanks to Mike and Benson. As the lights go out, I will try to steal a last kiss and hug. Early morning, I step on a plane bound for Key West to once again play with the wind.

We are thinking of the whole Kalahar clan, not just Mike. Don’t think of it as a big surgery, but rather as a bit of required maintenance. Before you know it, Mike will be powering, and this crazy year will be ancient history.

    All the best to everyone.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Have lots of fun at Key West. I’m looking forward to having the current adventure behind me and the future in front of me again. It seems like the past few months I’ve been in a holding pattern.

All the best to you, Jacque and Cascade.

We are pulling for you all.
Dan sure seems to have the good thoughts re required maintenance. I take comfort with your choice of maintenance teams and believe your support staff can not be improved.
